Rose married James Schug on September 5, 1980 at the First Reformed Church in Baldwin, WI. They lived on the Schug family farm near Glenwood City until 1989, and then moved to Baldwin. In 2007 Rose and Jim moved to Amery, WI. After Jim’s death on November 24, 2010, Rose moved back to Baldwin and lived in the Birchwood Apartments and Baldwin Care Center.
Rose was a member of the First Reformed Church in Baldwin all of her adult life. Her love of music was evident through playing piano, dancing, and singing her favorite hymns. Rose had a great fondness of the outdoors, enjoyed bird watching and took her daily walks. She loved visiting with family, friends and neighbors. She once stated that her only regret in life was that she hadn’t danced enough during her younger years! Her love of family, her sense of humor, and positive attitude throughout her life will remain in our hearts forever.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Esther Baker; husbands, Howard West and James Schug; siblings: Ralph Baker, Arch Baker, Ida Vrieze, and Dale Baker; sister and brother in- laws: Marvel and Leo Strain, Myrtle and Louie Veenendaal, Charlotte Baker, Willard Vrieze, Merle Baker, Betty Baker; and nephew, Lowell Veenendaal.
Rose is survived by children: Joan (Ron) Sandfort of Menomonie, Mike (Karla) West of Hamilton, MT, Jill (Walter) Jaeger of Hayward, and Joyce (Duane) Fox of Danbury; grandchildren: Jodi Sandfort (Steve Marchese), Amy (Raul) Sanchez, Jenny West (Sean MacNee), Matthew (Aundrea) Sandfort, Jennifer (Brennen) Weichert, Abby (Tim) Cureton, Chris (Lindsay) Jaeger, Joshua (Molly) Fox, Sarah (Mike) Schneider, Jacob (Ally) Fox; fifteen great-grandchildren: Andrew and Ethan Sandfort Marchese, Raul and Elena Sanchez, Noah, Jillian, and Evan Weichert, Miles and Wes Jaeger, Caden and Caitlyn Schneider, Kendra Fox and Ashlyn Mettler-Hatalia, Koa Cureton, Mason Fox; step children: Jim (Cheri) Schug, Roger (Debbie) Schug, Marge (Gary) Schone, Marlene (Kent) Mathison, Tom Schug, Bernard (Anita) Schug, Jane (Jeff) Leaf, and Joan Schone; many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt.
Her philosophy of life was best expressed with the words from Psalm 19, verse 14; “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my Redeemer.” She will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services for Rose West Schug will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 27 at First Reformed Church in Baldwin. Burial will be in the Baldwin Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 26 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin, and one hour prior to the service at church on Wednesday morning. Memorials are preferred to Baldwin Care Center and the First Reformed Church.
