Waller Oder and Mary Jane Blakemore
2 Mar 1835

May 24, 1883
in The Rockingham Register, Harrisonburg, Va.
OBITUARY.
Waller Oder departed this life May 12, 1883, at his son-in-law’s, George A. Craun’s, near Mossey Creek, in Augusta county, aged 73 years. He has been a resident of Mossy creek for about fifty years. He was born in the county of Culpeper, in that portion which now forms a portion of Rappahannock county. Not long after he settled on Mossy Creek, he married Jane Blakemore, the youngest daughter of the late George Blakemore, They had several children, all daughters but one, an only son, who is living in the State of Missouri, engaged in the practice of medicine. In the death of our Brother Oder, the community loses one of its oldest land-marks, and as long as he was able to labor he was an industrious, kine and obliging neighbor. He had no enemies - honored and respected by all - which was fully attested by the large number of citizens who assembled at Mossy Creek Church, at his burial, to pay their last tribute of respect to their deceased friend. His wife died several years ago. He was buried by the Masons. He had been a zealous member of that order for many years. Quite a number of the Craft from Bridgewater and Mt. Solon Lodges attended the burial, and after the beautiful and impressive ceremony of that ancient Order his remains were deposited in their mother earth by the side of his deceased wife. He never connected himself to any church, though we have hope in his death. Peace to his memory. N. L. B. Sangersville, Va., May 15, 1883.

Notes: N. L. B. is Nathan L Blakemore, Find A Grave Memorial# 48083125. He was a first cousin of Mary Jane Blakemore Oder.
