Grace Mann Cairnes, 91, of Cairnes Circle, our beloved mother and nanny, passed away into the arms of her heavenly father Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014.

Grace was a lifelong native of Haywood County and was the daughter of the late Willie Zebedee Mann and the late Inis Worley Mann. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Cairnes, in 1984, and also her sister, Gladys Hipps. Grace and her husband were the co-owners of Cairnes Grocery in Canton for many years, where they made many friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Grace was a faithful member of Ridgeway Baptist Church, where she had served as chairwoman of the kitchen committee, was a devoted nursery and Bible school worker and was also a longtime member of the Nannie Muse Sunday School Class. Her life and ministry was always being there for others, cooking for her family and friends and being of service to her community. Everyone loved Grace’s delicious applesauce stack cake and she enjoyed canning from her bountiful vegetable garden and working in her flower garden. She was also a talented artisan who designed and made gorgeous handmade quilts that were admired by everyone.

Grace loved listening to music, and she beamed with pride listening to the music of Balsam Range, of which her beloved grandson is a member. Grace was a gift to all who knew her. She was indeed a blessing to her family, her church and her community, and her spirit will live on through the lives she has touched.
