While a student at Petoskey High School Bob played football and basketball on a team in 1928 that never had a touchdown scored through their line in 18 consecutive games. After highschool he attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and graduated in 1932 with a degree in education. In 1937 he married the former Margaret Whitehall in Petoskey. The couple made their home in the Manistique area until 1939 when they moved back to Petoskey and Bob accepted the position of Petoskey Recreation Director. He held that position for 20 years. Bob also taught social science and served as a 7th. Grade Advisor, and most memorably as a coach. Mr. Woodruff was also the director of Camp Daggett for ten years and a driver's education instructor for many years. He retired from teaching in 1975, but continued to be involved in community projects and civic activities until his death. He was surrvived by his wife, two sons, Robert and John, and two daughters, Ann and Marcia.

It is going to take awhile for us to write this remarkable man's bio. But between his obituary and Jim Doherty's entertaining article (Petoskey News Review "Looking ‘em Over") you will have much to be read about this amazing man––his dedication to Petoskey and Harbor Springs. Both his obituary and Doherty's article are available to read at Petoskey's Greenwood Cemetery Genealogical Website:
