DANNY GEORGE BROOKS was born premature on the 26th of June 1933 to Fred G. and Cassandra (Gerber) Brooks, who were early settlers to this area as early as 1907. This fragile little baby was so small he was placed in a shoe box surrounded by blankets, put into an overstuffed chair, and placed in front of a pot-bellied stove with a roaring fire. As a baby, the doctor and nurse gave up on Danny, but his mother did not. She lovingly and willingly was determined that he live. He attended school in McIntosh. Although Danny never learned to read or write, he was passed from grade to grade. As an adult, after finding that some people might take advantage of him because of this his brother Fritz did teach him to count change so he would not be cheated in regards to money. His mechanical ability was wonderful. The first indication of this was the summer he built an old pickup. He had worked for a farmer and asked him if he could have some car parts out of his "junk pile". Danny built a pickup and it ran. He drove it several miles toward home and it sputtered out, so he called his brother Paul, who could not believe what he was seeing, but towed it home. With more help he ran that vehicle for many years.

For many years, Danny worked for many friends in the McIntosh Community. He had his own dray line, mowed lawns, and help out wherever he could.

He was a member of the McIntosh Presbyterian Church, and a honored member of the McIntosh Fire Department.

He was diagnosed with cancer in July 2005 and passed from this life on Sunday, July 10, at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger.

Surviving family members include his 5 brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward L. Brooks, Parkland, WA; Ernest F. and Helen Brooks, Denver, CO; John M. and Abbie Brooks, Andover, MN; Paul F. and Gladys Brooks, Spanaway, WA; Karl A. and Ann Brooks, Huntington, WV; 1 sister, Anna J. Stevens, Jackson, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother, James A. Brooks.
