He was born Hardy Dean Leake in Paris, Texas to Robert Lowell and Myrtle Lucille Leake.

He graduated from Talco High School in 1961 and then moved to the Dallas area to become an electrician and pursed that to Master Electrician.

He then began to work and build his own business while working in the area oilfields for HB Hinton.

Dean helped to rebuild St. Croix following the destruction from a hurricane; he also worked for HB Zachry, reconstructing and building new electric power plants in Texas, Florida and Mississippi. He had a great love of the outdoors where he loved to hunt, fish and work. Dean was a faithful member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Talco.
