David married Dovie Ross on July 5, 1941. He enlisted in the US Army Infantry, then left for Camp Blanding, near Stark, Florida, on 15th of September 1943. His youngest child was born exactly four weeks after he left Plant City to go to Camp Blanding. Left Camp Blanding to train in Oklahoma. Was given a one week leave before shipping out to Europe. He went home to see his wife and their two children, including his first and only time seeing his newborn son. He was killed in action in France and buried in a military cemetery there before being returned to his native soil at the request of his mother about four years later . He was reinterred near his parents. Was survived by his four sisters, Nettie, Olie May, Margie, Liddy, and his brother Callis, who was the youngest of the family.
Most of his siblings died from heart disease.
He was 24years old when he died in service to his country.
