Lorenzo married Charlotte Luce, daughter of Port Huron lumberman Bartlett Luce and his wife Sarah Janes Luce, November 10, 1838, in Canterbury, Connecticut. Their home in Detroit was located on Lafayette Street. He had gone to Rhode Island for his health but his "illness took a sudden and serious turn" and he died there. His obituary, published in the Detroit Free Press, August 7, 1872, noted that he was survived by his wife and two children (Charles and Julia).
