Martha SMITH and Jesse Jones had 7 children although one unnamed child died an infant. Their 2 oldest children were born in Marengo Co., AL. They were, Francis "Fannie" Ida in 1851 and William Fredrick in 1853. Mary also raised the son of Jesse’s 1st wife, Flavius “Flave” Marcellus, born 1843.
Jesse, Martha, the children, and Jesse’s 12 Slaves moved to Station Creek, Coryell Co., Texas in 1854.
Jesse bought a farm in Station Creek. Their next 4 children were born there: Jesse Croom in 1854, James Herbert abt 1856, Henry C., abt 1858, Susana Alabama, 1863-1955.
When the Civil War broke out, Martha's Step-son Flavius enlisted in the 26th Texas Calvary, CSA, and fought all 4 years of the War.
Jesse died in 1883. Martha survived him by 22 years, living to the age of 79. In 1900 Martha was living, with her daughter Francis “Fanny” (Kinnaman) and Fanny’s daughter Una, in McLennan Co., Texas. Her occupation was noted as "Landlady". She is buried here with her husband Jesse.
