Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. As a member of the United States Women's Swimming Team, she won a gold medal for her accomplishments during the second leg of the 400 Freestyle Relay Competition at the 1932 Summer Games in Los Angeles. Raised in Medford, Massachusetts, she was taught how to swim by her father and practiced laps in the Atlantic Ocean. At the age of seventeen, she qualified to represent the United States in California. After her Olympic experience, she attained her degree in Education from Brown University and settled in Sumter, South Carolina, where she taught Special Education for more-than forty years.
