US Olympic Gold Medalist. A swimmer, he earned a gold medal for his first-place finish in the Men's 200 breaststroke competition during the 1960 Summer Games in Rome. Born William Danforth Mulliken, he attended Miami University in Ohio. He achieved All-American honors and in 1959, he won the NCAA title. After his Olympic experience, he went on to attain a law degree from Harvard University. He was inducted into the Miami University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1971 and he was enshrined into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1984. He died following a stroke.
