Leota was a graduate of St. Ursula Academy, and received her bachelor and master degrees from Bowling Green State university. Miss Cutcher began her teaching career in 1931, in a one room school house on North Bass Island, traveling to work in a small plane. She taught at several Catholic schools 7 years, and then taught 36 years for the Toledo Public Schools at Marshall and Whittier elementary schools, teaching 3rd through 8th grades. She retired in 1970.

Miss Cutcher traveled widely, visiting Ireland, England, the European continent, and the Greek Islands.

Siblings: Hilary, Ignistus, Loretta, Anastasia, Frances, Jenny, Leonella, Bernard, Evelyn, Kenneth.
