Louis Raymond Austin
Services for Louis Raymond Austin, 92, of 1935 N. Grandview Ave. will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Egelhof-Casper-Strueber Funeral Home, 1145 Locust St.
Burial will be in South English Cemetery, Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Austin taught school from 1921-1965.
He was born Oct. 11, 1896, in Linn County, Mo., son of Dr. Homer M. and Lenora (Clipson) Austin. He died at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 1989 at the Finley Hospital.
He married Ruth Moore Dec. 20, 1916 in Webster; she died May 29, 1980.
He attended the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa. He taught engineering drawing and math at Jefferson High School from 1925-31 and Dubuque Senior High School from 1931-65. After he retired he was in charge of classroom work of the apprentice training program at John Deere Dubuque Works until 1969. He also worked parttime heading the drafting department at Morrison Brothers Co.
He was a member of the St. Luke's Methodist Church. He also was a member of the Dubuque Teachers Association, Iowa State Teachers Association, National Education Association and Dubuque Noon Lions Club. He was an associate member of the Mesa Arizona Host Lions Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Maurice (Helen) Michel of Moline, two sons, Robert R. of Canfield, Ohio and John M. of Sault Sainte Marie, Mich, nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. J.R. (Ruth) Underwood of Davenport, and a brother, Dr. M F of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. C.T. (Joan) Huntoon.
