There was a time to be born, as God saw fit years ago to give Shirley Jeanette Smith Meeks the breath of life. She became a living soul in Villa Rica, Georgia as the only child of her late parents, Earl and Verdene Kirby Smith. She lovingly cared for her mother who was stricken with Alzheimer's until her passing.

There was a time to love on April 10, 1954 when she married her high school sweetheart, Harold Grady Meeks and they were married for 65 years. There was a time to plant as they started their family and nurtured and developed them into the people God wanted them to be. As their two children grew up, they experienced times to laugh, to cry to be sad, to dance, to be silent and times to speak.

Mrs. Meeks was a member of the 1954 Villa Rica High School graduating class. She worked with the Carroll County school system as a teacher's assistant at Villa Rica Primary School, retiring in .... year with .... years of service. Prior to that, she also worked at Sears in Carrollton and the ASCS office, once her children were of age to be in school. She volunteered at the school as a Grade Mother while her children attended elementary school. She was a committed member of Flat Rock Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and helped with Vacation Bible School, and the nursery. She was a member of the Sonshine Ladies Class, Women on Missions and she and her husband enjoyed day trips with the Senior Adult group. She attended church faithfully as long as her health permitted.

Even though there is a sadness that is felt, the joy is in knowing that she was a servant of the Lord and a child of God, a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, throughout her entire life. There is a time to rejoice as she is praising our Lord face to face.

She is survived by her children; two grandchildren Emery and Adam.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Harold Grady Meeks, and her parents Earl and Verdene Kirby Smith; lifelong friend Nancy Wix.

The family would like to pay special gratitude to their parent's care givers, Melinda White Seals and others, during their time of declining health, allowing them to finish their final chapter of life in their home.

Funeral services will be held at Flat Rock Baptist Church on Saturday, February 3. Interment will follow in the Glenn Memorial Gardens, Flat Rock Road, Villa Rica, Georgia.

........................................................................

this poem reminds me of my mother....

Your Mother is always with you.

She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street.

She's the smell of certain foods you remember,

flowers you pick and perfume that she wore.

She's the cool hand on your brow when you're not feeling well.

She's your breath in the air on a cold winter's day.

She is the sound of the rain that lulls you to sleep,

the colors of a rainbow.

She is Christmas morning.

Your Mother lives inside your laughter.

She's crystallized in every teardrop.

A mother shows every emotion ..........

happiness, sadness, fear, jealousy, love, hate, anger, helplessness, excitement, joy,

sorrow... and all the while, hoping and praying you will only know the good

feelings in life.

She's the place you came from, your first home,

and she's the map you follow with every step you take.

She's your first love; your first friend, even your first enemy,

but nothing on earth can separate you.

Not time, not space...

not even death!
