Mrs. Shankle was born December 30, 1902, the daughter of William "Will" Lowery and Gertrude Richards Byrd in Walker County, GA. SHe was a member of the First Methodist Church of Fort Payne and attended Berry College in GA.
Survivors include her son, James "Ted" Shankle, Fort Payne AL, sisters Goma Byrd Stallard, Avon Park, FL, Ruth Massey, Fort Oglethorpe, GA, Susie Byrd, Fort Oglethorpe, GA two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at 1 CST, 2 pm EST, at the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Gardens in Rossville with the Dr. Mark Lacey officiating.
