Henry Buford Meeks was a decorated World War II Veteran. He was captured and was a recipient of a Bronze Star, Silver Star and Purple Heart while in Germany. He was shot and left on the dead pile while in Germany.

He retired from GE after working 20 years. He worked for a concrete company in Clarkston until he retired. Once he retired, he continued working, overseeing a carwash.

He was survived by his son Henry Buford Meeks, Jr., daughter Mary Elizabeth Meeks Burk, and a second son they called "Sweetthang", Raymond Sidney Meeks.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, and cared for his brother Raymond until his death. He was also predeceased by his wife, May Etta.

His siblings included Millard Meeks, Raymond Meeks, John Sidney Meeks, my dad's father, (Charlie) Lillie Wellburn, (Hubert) Myrtle Lou Defnall, and Pearl, all of whom he was predeceased..

Dad had good things to say about his Uncle Henry. He said Uncle Henry was kind, and many times Daddy and his siblings were without food and hungry and Uncle Henry would bring them food.

Uncle Henry and Aunt Marietta lived in Doraville.

Funeral services were held at RT Patterson Funeral Home, January 2, 1998, conducted by Rev. Richard Wright. Burial was in Sherwood Forest Memorial Park, Jonesboro, Georgia.

location of this grave....as you drive in the first section to the right is the Garden of Tranquility. At the corner where the sign is for the Garden of Tranquility, this grave is about 10 back toward the highway and about 4 away from the drive. It is a double marker. I visited 10/26/2014.
