Mr McCreight was a member of two prominent Fairfield County families. He was born in Camden, son of the late Edward Oscar and Margaret Alexander McCreight. He had lived in Columbia for the past 35 years.
Mr McCreight was owner of the Auto Electric Company of Columbia and was a pioneer in the radio business in South Carolina. His concern was one of the first to sell radios to the public. He retired after his first illness in 1929 and since that time his hobbies have been friends, flowers, fishing and kids. He was known among the sportsmen of South Carolina as a true sport, and could be found any day at McMaster's telling stories of his experience with his fly rod.
As a flower grower, he had few equals. He specialized in dahlias, and every fair week his entries at the fair were the best of the show. He won numerous trophies and was the winner of the Sylvan cup for the best dahlias for three years.
He was a member of the Washington Street Methodist Church.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs Edith Koennecke McCreight; two daughters, Miss Betty McCreight and Mrs E F Farr, both of Columbia, two sons, Robert G McCreight, Jr, and Charles R McCreight of Columbia. He had three grandchildren, Barbara, Edwin Farr, Jr and Patty McCreight. His visits to Kilbourne Park to see them was an event among all the children of the neighborhood. To them he was known as "Grandaddy."
He is also survived by one brother, Beverly R McCreight, of Washington, DC.
