Emile J. Ruiz, a retired carpenter, died Tuesday at his home. He was 76. Mr. Ruiz was a lifelong resident of Violet. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Carpenter's Local No. 1846. Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Smith Ruiz; two sons, Ronald Joseph Ruiz and Merlin James Ruiz; two brothers, Irwin Ruiz and George Ruiz Sr.; two sister, Mildred Evans and Virginia Perez; six grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at Tharp-Sontheimer-Laudumiey Funeral Home, 5001 Chef Menteur Highway. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.
