A celebration of life will be held Jan. 29 for Elma Scott of Eugene, who died Jan. 24 of age-related causes. She was 96.

Scott was born June 25, 1909, in Sink, Ore., to John and Ida Young Gaskell. She married Bruce Scott on Oct. 4, 1928, in Idaho. He died in 1972.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane and from business college. She worked as an accountant for 26 years and was an office manager at Madras Hospital for five years.

Scott lived in Prineville from 1944 to 1974, and in a motor home from 1974 to 1992. She next lived in Springfield until 1999, when she moved to the Eugene Hotel. She enjoyed travel, computers and bridge.

She volunteered as an office worker for Habitat for Humanity and won an Oasis Role Model Award for that work. She belonged to the Episcopal church, Soroptimists International of Prineville and Loners on Wheels.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Shepherd of Springfield; a son, Bruce of San Jose, Calif.; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Myrna Scott, died in 1962.

Her family will remember her optimistic outlook on life and willingness to try new things, even at 96.

Sunday's celebration will be at 5 p.m. at the Eugene Hotel.
