Charles (Chuck) Knichel, 75, of Port Orange, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Halifax Memorial.

He was born on March 28, 1936 in Passaic, NJ. The oldest of four boys, he was a member of the Class of 1954 at East Rutherford High School, NJ where he was also inducted into the Wildcat Hall of Fame in 1998. Following graduation, Chuck served in the United States Marine Corps.

After many years residing in New Jersey, he and his family moved to Winter Park, FL in 1982, and later retired to Port Orange, Florida in 2001.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice; children: Michael Knichel (Kathy), Charleston, SC, one daughter, Susan Juliano, and youngest son, Douglas Knichel, both of Port Orange. He is also survived by two brothers, Artie Knichel (Jane), and Bobby Knichel (Judie) of New Jersey.

He was preceded in death by brother, Dennis of Orlando.

Surviving grandchildren include, Brian, Amie, Nick, Matt, Zac, and Katelyn, as well as great-grandchildren, Dylan, Brooklynn, and Kloee.

Chuck was a devoted husband and proud father; family and friends were his world. He loved all aspects of life. He was a devout Catholic and served in many capacities at both St. Margaret Mary Church in Winter Park and Our Lady of Hope, inspiring all who knew and loved him. Chuck also valued the many enduring friendships he forged as a member of the "House of Jims".

As a life-long professional in the food and beverage industry, he truly believed in service with a smile, maybe a joke, and sometimes even a song. Chuck owned and operated the popular lunchtime gathering spot named "The Doghouse by Chuck" in Winter Park for 17 years. He was a true sports fan and avid follower of local teams while still maintaining his loyalty to his beloved NY Giants and Yankees.

Friends and family are invited to join in a memorial mass for Chuck at 8:30 am on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 4675 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Port Orange.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church.
