1st Lt. Debra Anne Banaszak of the 1035th Maintenance Company based at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, MO, a unit in the MO National Guard died in Kuwait as a result of noncombatant injuries which are still under investigation by military officials. On hand for the ceremonies in Gilman, IL were IL Lt Gov Pat Quinn, Adjutant General King Sidell, a one-star general, a full bird colonel and a major, all from the MO National Guard Unit. She had been a career police and Army officer, serving 15 yrs in various military units.
Survivors- a 15 yr old son, Mark Anthony Banaszak; her parents; brother, Brian Butler of Decatur; aunts and uncles, Carol Palermo, Norma Miller, Judith Anderson and Judge David Butler, all of Bloomington.
Parents- Barbara Anne Poe Butler the daughter of Marvin Poe, the son of Mr and Mrs Percy Poe, long-time residents of Gilman, IL. Percy had been a jeweler and avid bowler.
