SPENCER - Eugene J. Beauchamp, 74, of 6 Parent St. died yesterday in Worcester County Hospital, Boylston, after a long illness.

He leaves his wife, Jeanne I. (Gauthier) Beauchamp; two sons, Donald E. and Edward P. Beauchamp, both of Spencer; two sisters, Helen Hurley and Rita Lundstrom, both of Pinellas Park, Fla.; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nephews and nieces. Mr. and Mrs. Beauchamp observed their 51st wedding anniversary last November. He was born in Marlboro, son of Alphonse and Ida (Lariviere) Beauchamp, and lived here most of his life.

He was a wireworker for 37 years at the former Thompson Steel & Wire Co. in Worcester, retiring in 1978.

Mr. Beauchamp was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European-African-Middle Eastern theater.

Mr. Beauchamp was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, and a member of its Sacred Heart League and the Catholic Golden Agers. He was a member of the Spencer Golden Age Club, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Worcester Area Association for Retarded Citizens. He was secretary of the former Spencer Aerie, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and a former member of the Spencer Fish & Game Club. He was a former member of the Massachusetts Association of Assessors, the Democratic Town Committee and Local 3234, United Steelworkers of America, AFL-CIO, in Worcester. He was a life member of Worcester Chapter, Disabled American Veterans, and Gaudette-Kirk Post, American Legion, and a former member of Alfred K. Prouty Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in North Brookfield. He was a member of the Societe des Artisans and former secretary of its Worcester Chapter.

Mr. Beauchamp was secretary of the Spencer Board of Health from 1960 to 1965, and served on the Board of Assessors from 1968 to 1976. He was chairman of the former World War II and Korean War Veterans Memorial Committee.

The funeral will be held Monday from J. Henri Morin & Son Funeral Home, 23 Maple Terrace, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 60 Maple St. Burial will be in Holy Rosary-St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
