Son of Adolph Scheftel and Sophia King and husband of Vivian Straus.Son of Adoph and Sophia (King) Scheftel, was Bache on April 17, 1875, in New York City, Where he was prepared for College privately and at the Woodbridge School. He received a Colloquy
appointment in junior year, and a Dispute at Commencement.

Since graduation, he had been continuously with the banking firm of J. S. & Company in New York City, having been taken into partnership in 1900. In that year he purchased a seat in the New York Stock Exchange.

He was a member of the chamber of Commerce and of the Yale Club.

His generosity aided in financing the noteworthy expedition to Macchu Picchu in Peru under the leadership of Hiram Bingham.

Scheftel died at his summer home in East Williston, Long Island, on September 12, 1914.

His marriage took place in New York City, on January 17, 1907, to Vivian, daughter of the late Isidor Straus and Ida(Blun)Straus. Mrs. Scheftel survives him with their two sons: Herbert Straus Scheftel and Stuart Adolph Scheftel.

In memory of her husband, Mrs. Scheftel has given a sum of money towards the endowment of the Yale University Press.
