Clyde Nathan Davidson Jr. passed away at his home on June 9, 2014 at the age of 76.

He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on February 12, 1938, the son of Clyde Nathan Davidson Sr. and Geraldine Iris Wright. The family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, and later to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1956. He married his college sweetheart, Carolynn Sue Thompson, in Tulsa, Oklahoma on May 29, 1958. He moved his family from Tulsa to Emporia in 1966 to take a job at Didde Glaser, where he continued to work until he retired in 2000.

As a teenager, Clyde was a boy scout. He belonged to The Order of the Arrow, a national honor society for scouting, and received the highest distinction in scouting- the Eagle Scout, from the Governor of Arkansas. While attending Will Rogers High School, Clyde was the 1955 Oklahoma state high school track champion, setting a record for the two mile event. He ran for the University of Oklahoma on full-ride track scholarship. His running career continued throughout his life, running in races all over the world. He belonged to "The Old Man's Marching and Debating Society," his faithful group of running buddies who meet each day at five-o'clock, rain or shine.

Clyde was a mentor to many aspiring young athletes, and traveled extensively to support youth cross country, track, and soccer. In the late 1970's, he established the Two Rivers Youth Soccer Association. Known to most as "Coach," he coached the first Emporia High School boys' soccer team from 1986-1988, his children's and grandchildren's teams as they were growing up, and most dear to his heart- The Fire and Ice girls' competitive soccer team. Through his contributions to Emporia youth soccer over the years, he touched the lives of thousands of kids in the community.

Clyde leaves behind his wife Carolynn; a brother, Paul H. Davidson of Shreveport, Louisiana; a sister, Jeran Alexander of Richardson, Texas; his daughter, Shelley Wise (Mike) of Emporia; two sons, Derek Davidson (Karen), and Daren Davidson (Joy), both of Reno, Nevada; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five nieces and nephews; and his beloved golden retriever, Abby. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of his life will be held at Victory Fellowship Church on Americus Road, Friday, June 13, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. Matthew and Karen Green will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M., prior to the service.
