William E. Sawyer, 84, a veteran of the Civil War and a resident of San Rafael for more than 20 years, died this afternoon at one o'clock at the Cottage Hospital after a long illness.
Sawyer is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Sawyer, who is an invalid. He was a member of the Rochester, NY Lodge of Odd Fellows, and the funeral services which will be held at the parlors of Keaton & Dusel Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock will be conducted by the Marin Lodge No. 200 of Odd Fellows.

Sawyer, William E. - Enlisted in company M, Eight Cavalry, Jan. 19, 1864, at Detroit, for 3 years, age 19. Mustered Jan. 20, 1864. Joined regiment at Mt. Sterling, Ky., Feb. 27, 1864. Missing on raid to Macon, Ga., Aug. 3, 1864. Discharged at Detroit, Mich., May 2, 1865.
