Daryl P. Fischer, 66, of Audubon, passed away on Wednesday April 9, 2014, at Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon.
Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dedham. The celebrant will be Father Andrew Hoffmann assisted by Deacon Louis Meiners. Music will be by Cindy Bauer and the St. Joseph choir. Lectors will be Dennis Fischer and Gene Tranel. Gift bearers will be Dual's grandchildren Karenna Petersen, Brendan Petersen and Kiersten Petersen. Eucharistic ministers will be Pat Anthofer and Gene Derner. Casket bearers will be Dale Willenborg, Clete Anthofer, Brian Klocke, Craig Owen, Bob Schumacher and Jon Schumacher. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Dedham with military honors conducted by the Dedham American Legion.
Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Monday at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. The casket will be moved to St. Joseph Church at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday when visitation will resume.

Daryl Fischer (also known as "Butch" by his family) was born in Carroll on Feb. 18, 1948, a son of Clarence and Agatha (Dentlinger) Fischer. Daryl was baptized and confirmed in St. Joseph Parish in Dedham. He attended Kuemper Catholic Schools graduating with the Class of 1966.
He entered the U.S. Air Force in June 1967, taking basic and advanced training in Texas. He served in Vietnam and Brasilia, Brazil, South America, being honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant in June 1971. After his service to his country, he worked for a short time in Kansas City, before starting his farming career. He joined his father's operation, and they farmed together until 2008.
Daryl and Mary Ellen (Johansen) married on Sept. 19, 1992 in Audubon. One of his biggest joys was becoming stepdad to Mary Ellen's daughter, Marisa. After Marisa was married he found his greatest joy in the three grandchildren who followed. Many happy hours were spent at baptisms, birthdays, and their annual vacations at Lake Okoboji.
Daryl was an active lifetime member of the Dedham American Legion, enjoying all activities and meetings, including past commander. He was a forever farmer at heart, meticulously caring for his tools and equipment. In his younger years, he rebuilt antique tractors and made many friends at tractor-pull events. He brought an endless array of trophies home, some of which landed at his mother's home for her to dust. Daryl nearly always had a smile on his face and spent time in good-natured teasing often at the expense of his younger sisters. He enjoyed a beer with his friends and was always ready to help nearly anyone in need, including watching over his aging parents.
Daryl is survived by his wife: Mary Ellen Fischer of Audubon; stepdaughter Marisa Petersen and husband Matthew, as well as his grandchildren: Karenna, Brendan and Kiersten, all of Ankeny; his siblings: Dennis Fischer and wife Elaine of Boise, Idaho, Denise Odland of Johnston, Diane Fath of Des Moines, and Debbie Tranel and husband Gene of Washington, Ill.; his mother-in-law Bernice Johansen of Audubon; sister-in-law Clarann Burgess and husband Steve of Clive; brother-in-law Richard Bonnesen, of Aurelia; as well as much loved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many friends and neighbors.
Preceding him in death were his parents Clarence and Agatha Fischer and sister-in-law Deanna Bonnesen.
