Funeral services for Mr. Edward A. Mellema, 23, were held Monday at the First Christian Reformed church in Rock Valley, with the Rev. Gysbert J. Rozenboom, pastor of the First Christian Reformed Church of Hull, officiating. Interment was at Hope Cemetery at Hull, under the direction of the Ponter Funeral HOme of Rock Valley.
Edward Alvin Mellema was born at Hull, Iowa on May 23, 1942. He passed from this life on December 9, 1965, at the age of 23 years, 6 momths, and 16 days.
He was a graduate of the Hull Christian grammar school, and of Western Christian high school class of 1960. He professed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ on May 2nd, 1960 in the First Christian Reformed Church of Hull, Iowa. At the time of his death he was a member of the Calvin Christian Reformed Church of Rock Valley.
He attended Dordt College from 1960-1962. During the winter of 1963 he was on active duty with the Air National Guard. In the fall of 1963, he continued his education at Dordt College, and graduated with the first Dordt graduating class of 1965, He received an assistantship from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, where he was pursuing graduate study at the time of his death.
He was united in marriage to Judith Carol De Vries on June 2, 1964.
Survivors are his wife, Judith, his parents, Andrew and Gertrude Mellema of Valley Manor, Rock Valley Iowa; Mrs. James Stevenson of Oak Park, Illinois, and Ivan Mellema of Battle Creek, Michigan
