Andrew Mellema, 86, of Rock Valley died Wednesday in a hospital in Rock Valley after a brief illness. Services were held Saturday in the Porter Funeral Home. The Rev. Marvin Heyboer officiated. Burial was in the Hope Cemetery at Hull. Visitation was Friday in the funeral home.
Mr. Mellema, was born Dec. 20, 1896, at Leewarden, The Netherlands. He married Gertrude Vander Vain Feb. 23, 1925, at Hull. They farmed in the Perkins area until 1965 when they moved to the Rock Valley Nursing Home. She died Jan. 18, 1973.
He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of Hull. Survivors include two brothers, Charles of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Dirk of Leewarden and one sister, Tryne Bul of Dallas, Texas.
