Michael Wayne "Mike" Gravitt Sr., 56, of Davenport, Iowa, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.
A funeral service was held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. The Reverend Richard Bresnahan, St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, officiated. Visitation was two hours prior to the funeral. A memorial fund was established in his name.
Mike was born on April 19, 1943, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Arthur Floyd and Marie Kathryn Hinkel Gravitt. He grew up in Coal Valley, Illinois, and graduated from Moline High School in 1961. He married Brenda Kay Ward on June 8, 1963, and they had two children: Melissa Kay (b. 1964) and Michael Wayne Jr. (b. 1967). He and Brenda divorced in 1982 and he married his second wife, Nettie Jean Gosnell Curry, on September 20, 1986. They were married until his death in 1999.
Mike worked at John Deere & Company from 1972 until his death in 1999. He loved camping, fishing, hunting and everything outdoors.
He was survived by: parents, Arthur and Marie Hinkel Gravitt, Coal Valley, IL; wife, Jean Gosnell Curry Gravitt, Davenport, IA; daughter, Melissa (Tracy) Miller, Duluth, GA; son, Michael Gravitt Jr., Chicago, IL; two grandchildren, Kathryn "Katy" and Tristan Miller, Duluth, GA; step-daughters, Stacey Nielsen, Rock Island, IL, Tracey Anderson, Davenport, IA, and Jeanie (Don) Shumaker, Davenport, IA; eight step-grandchildren; and siblings, Janice (Dick) Seibert, Moline, IL, Rich (Pat) Gravitt, Coal Valley, IL, Barb (Marv) Swanson, Orion, IL, Marge (Jerry) Maddox, Coal Valley, IL, and Sandy (Don) Metzner, Little York, IL.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Eugene "Gene" Gravitt.
