She was born Oct. 20, 1919 the daughter of Fred and Viola (Gremore) Berger. She worked as a clerk for Gambles. She married Floyd Atkins on April 16, 1941. He preceded her in death July 19, 1981. She worked in the laboratory for Burgess Cellulose and later as a bookkeeper for Steiner Brothers Construction. Vi then began working at 3M Company and retired after 20 years service. She was an active member at St. Gabriel's, an avid golfer and loved traveling and playing cards.
She is survived by her children, Joseph (Sharon) Atkins, Michael (Luane) Atkins of Prairie du Chien, Dick (Kathy) Atkins of Bagley, Judy (Floyd) Beneker of Marshall, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Mary Berger of Prairie du Chien; her grandchildren, Barb (Todd) Hazel, Elizabeth Beneker, Carrie (Bob) Carl, Carole (Kent) Gilkes, Tara (Bob) Betzle, Eric Atkins, Sara (Jason) Wasserberg, Nina Atkins; a step-grandchild, Cris Kivi; eight great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Robert Atkins and two brothers, Oliver and William Berger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, April 17, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Church of the Holy Family Parish with burial in the St. Gabriel's Church Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call on Wednesday, April 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien.
