She was born Camillia Tuzinowska in a small town in Prussia. She landed in Pittsburg, PA and met and married Thomas (Tommy) Wojtowicz, but he owned a tailor shop and changed his name to Theodore Wojtowicz Thomas, which was easier for people to remember for business. Camillia died before I was born. I've been trying to discover exactly where she was born and raised so I could see if there were any relatives still living. I "think" she may be from what is now Elk Poland. Still working on it. Camillia, I'm told, was a person who attracted friends. She had many and was godmother to several gypsy children. I'm not sure if that was in the US or in Poland. Family stories say her father was a fisherman. She spoke several languages fluently, mostly German and Polish. She must have done a wonderful job because while both her children grew up in a bilingual home, both children spoke English and polish, yet
neither spoke with the slightest accent.
