The Father had taken the two younger sons to the restroom and this is when, the adventurous 7 year old Rodney, decided to jump on their air raft/mattress on the beach, and come to fall off of the floatation devise just a few yards away from the shore line.
His Mother heard the splashing and cries for help, and ran into the water to help her son. Jeannie was never a swimmer.
She was recovered before the evening. Her Son was found the next morning, under the ledge where his Mother had stepped off of, in her attempt to rescue her son.

COOLIDGE Woman and her 7 year old Son drowned yesterday, In Canyon Lake, sheriff’s deputies reported. Investigators said that Mrs. Lloyd Brannon, 29 and her Son Rodney Paul Brannon, of 841 West Dewey, had been swimming near the Laguna camp ground. Deputy Don Ashford reported Mrs. Brannon’s husband was at the campground when the drownings occurred. Both bodies were recovered, Asford said.
At the request and agreement by the Brannon Grandparents and Lloyd Sr., a funeral was held in Coolidge, Arizona, and the Mother and Son were interred in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at the request of Jeannie's parents.
Rodney Paul Brannon was the first of three sons to Lloyd & Jeannie.

A former Cedar Rapids woman, 29, and her 7-years-old son were drowned Monday afternood in Arizona, according to word received here Wednesday.
Mrs. Lloyd Brannon, the former Loretta Hean Mann, and Rodney Paul were residents of Coolidge, Ariz. They were on a family outing at Wood's Canyon Lake, 60 miles northeast of Phoenix, when the accident occurred.
No further details were available.
Mrs. Brannon was born Oct. 29, 1936, in Cedar Rapids and was married to Lloyd P. Brannon on June 15, 1958, In Las Vegas. She had been a Cedar Rapids resident 22 years.
Surviving are her husband; two sons, Jeffrey and Randy Brannon, both at home, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Mann, Coolidge, Arizona; a sister, Mrs. Donovan McCluskey, and two brothers, Ira E. Mann, Jr. and Leroy Mann. All of Cedar Rapids.
Rodney was born May 12, 1959, at Coolidge.
Surviving are his father, two brothers; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard C. Brannon, all of Coolidge.
Memorial services will be conducted in the Turner chapel at a time and date to be announced. Burial: Czech National Cemetery.

Burial will be in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mrs. Brannon was born in Cedar Rapids and had lived in Coolidge eight years. Rodney was born in Coolidge.
Surviving are her husband, Lloyd, and two sons, Jeffery, 5, and Randy, 3. her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ira E. Mann, Sr., all of Coolidge, two brothers, Leroy, and Ira E. Jr.,' a sister. Mrs. Lorvane McClulesky, all of Cedar Rapids.
