Born January 3, 1954 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Farris and Katie Abernathy. A mechanic in the textile industry during his working life, he was a man who never met a stranger. Monte was always ready with a story or kind word.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Zelda Moss Abernathy; one daughter, Jessica Mae Abernathy Bautista (Jose) of Chesnee, SC; and three sons, Jason Monte Abernathy of Polk Co. Justin Lee Abernathy of Mill Spring, NC; and Franklin Joshua Abernathy of Mill Spring, NC. Also surviving are Alec Jason Abernathy of the home, as well as 11 grandchildren and five siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2014 in Mill Spring First Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Osborne officiating.
Burial will follow services in the church cemetery.
Family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of the Mill Spring First Baptist Church.
