Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Smart, widow of William G. Smart who proceeded her to the the grave 18 years ago, died on March 26th at 8 o'clock at her home near Double Shoals. Mrs. Smart was 80 years, 10 months, and 14 days old, and all of her long and useful life was devoted to good deeds and kindly ministrations to family and friends. She is survived by 72 descendants, four sons, two daughters, 32 Grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. He sons are Bishop, Roland, Whitefield, and Lee Smart, and daughters Mesdames Josie Tessinear, and Emily Beaver. Interment was at Double Shoals Church on Thursday, Rev D.G. Washburn conducted the funeral services. Seventy of her descendants were at the funeral.
Margaret E. Murphy married William Gettys Smart June 5th 1860. They were married in the District of York County, SC by Rev. John S. Harris. Mr. William G. Smart, of Rutherford Co., NC and Miss Maragret E. Murphy of the former place.
