Son of John Havard Davies and Maria Davies, he was born in Bowes Green and baptised at St Michael at Bowes, Southgate on 8 November 1903. His parents were then living at 10 Myddleton Road but on census night in 1911 he was living with his siblings and mother at 69B Grand Parade, Haringay (his father was away on business in Newcastle).
Reginald had joined the Metropolitan Police on 4th June 1928 with warrant number 117663, his previous occupation having been as a "teamster" according to his Met Central Record of Service. He was initially assigned to M (Southwark) Division, passing his 2nd Class Educational Exam on 23 August 1929, his 1st Class Educational Exam on 18 August 1932 and his technical exam to become a 2nd class CID sergeant on 18 May 1933.
In the meantime, on 19 January 1929 at St Paul's Church Haringay, north London he married Helen Maud Palmer, a works superintendent's daughter. He was then living at 693 Grant Parade but he transferred to T (Hammersmith) Division on 2 May 1938, the same date as his promotion to 2nd Class CID Sergeant. By September 1939 the couple were living at 138 Teddington High Street, with Helen working as a clerk at a drapery store. The couple had no surviving children and divorced in 1941.
He went off police pay to join the forces on 27 June 1943 and at the time of his death he was serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, assigned to 115 Squadron with the service number 156998. His Avro Lancaster III (Serial Number ND745 and markings A4-D) took off from RAF Witchford in Cambridgeshire for a 375-bomber night raid on Dortmund in the Ruhr area of western Germany on 22 May 1944. His was one of 18 Lancasters lost.
