Former county resident dies in road mishap
A former county resident, Lawrence Batiste, 67, died Saturday, May 13, after he was struck and apparently killed while walking on Hwy 53 about two miles north of Spooner.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 10 A.M. at St. Francis Solanus Church, Rev. Father Laurus Rhode officiating. Interment followed in St. Francis cemetery. Vigil prayers were said Monday evening at the Koerpel Funeral Chapel, Hayward.
Born at Couderay on June 1, 1905, Mr. Batiste was employed by the Northwestern Railroad at Janesville and Beloit for a number of years prior to his retirement.
He is survived by one brother, Ira of Minneapolis, three sisters, Mrs. Adeline Rothenberger of St. Paul, MN, Mrs. Lucy Ruper of Beloit, and Mrs. Hazel Gouge of Minneapolis.
