Gloria Abben-Lally, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on April 20, Easter Sunday, at the age of 88, with the loving support of her grandson Garrett Abben, his partner Scott Heckes and son Phillip Abben.

Born in San Diego, California, Gloria was an accomplished athlete who in her younger years was an award-winning national and regional water ski champion, characterized by the Sacramento Bee in 1959 as 'a trim blond...Pacific Coast Women's overall champion, Pacific Coast Women's Trick champion, Western Open Jumping champion, and Western overall champion. ' Her athletic skill and that of her two sons took her and her family to exhibitions and competitions throughout the United States and Europe, of which she was quite proud. She was an avid snow skier and in later life became an accomplished golfer.

Gloria attended the University of Southern California at a time when a woman in higher education was not the norm. Gloria's professional career centered on her work for Pacific Bell, where she held executive positions in public relations, marketing and training.

Gloria was a skilled musician accomplished on both the saxophone and keyboard, and also enjoyed singing. She was a proud member of the Sun City Singers of Roseville where she performed as a bass.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband Judge William (Bill) Lally, she is survived by many family members including her sons Phillip Abben and Gary Abben, grandchildren Garrett Abben and his partner Scott Heckes, Orion Abben, Safana Abben, Zane Abben, and Billy Day among many others.

A remembrance of her life will be held on Friday, May 2, at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Church in Roseville, followed by a reception at The Timbers Lodge at Sun City.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA, and the Roseville Sutter Care at Home.
