John "Blackie" P. Fiederowicz, 89, of East Hartford, loving husband of 60 years of the late Josephine (Guerrieo) Fiederowicz, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2014 with caring family by his side. Born in Hartford on July 5, 1924, a son of the late Walter and Emily (Muncha) Fiederowicz he had been a resident of East Hartford for many years. John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II serving as an Engineer Aviation Battalion in the South Pacific. Prior to his retirement, "Blackie" was employed as Iron Worker with the Iron Workers' Local 15 and 424. John was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. He was also a loyal fan of UCONN basketball, both the Women's and Men's teams. John is survived by two daughters, Debra A. Spencer and her husband, Brenton, of Saugus, MA, Cheryl Landry and her husband, Edward, of Flower Mound, TX; three special grandchildren, Brenton Spencer, Jr., Andrew John Spencer, and Cara Spencer. He also leaves two sisters, Wanda Bocon and her husband, Teddy, and Sophie Cancelmo; his two grand dogs, Teddy and Winnie; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Besides his beloved wife and parents, John was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be Tuesday (April 29th) at 11 am at the D'ESOPO-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow at Veteran's Memorial Field-Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home chapel on Tuesday morning from 9:30 - 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's name may be made to a favorite charity of the donor's choice .
