William T. "Blackie" McHugh, 83, of Perth Amboy died Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, at home.

Born in East Boston, Mass., Mr. McHugh lived the last 50 years in Perth Amboy. He was a member of Iron Workers Local 373 in Perth Amboy for 25 years before retiring in 1984. He was a member of Holy Spirit R.C. Church, Perth Amboy, a third degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 857 in Woodbridge and the John Barry Division of the Hibernians of Perth Amboy.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Irene McHugh, and his brothers, James, Robert, Malcolm, Gerald and Donald McHugh. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Grace Doucette McHugh of Perth Amboy; a son, Lawrence McHugh of Metuchen; three daughters, Eileen McHugh of Texas, Jane Edge of Metuchen and Patricia Strubel of Medford; two brothers, Paul and Eugene McHugh, both of Massachusetts; four sisters, Margaret Sullivan of Cape Cod, Mass., Irene Falaska of Massachusetts, Joan Thibeault of Boston, Mass., and Bernadette Whitney of Massachusetts. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from Leon J. Gerity Funeral home, 411 Amboy Ave., Woodbridge, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at Holy Spirit R.C. Church, Perth Amboy. Burial will be at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visiting will be 2 p.m.-4 p.m. and 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
