Josie McAndrew Obituary

McANDREW, JOSIE PAULINE - 92 of Dandridge, went to be with her Lord Saturday, November 18, 2006 in Jefferson City. She was preceded in death by parents, Edward Mitchell and Lucy (Rhinehart) McAndrew, brothers, Joseph Mitchell, Inman, and William McAndrew, sister in law Martha McAndrew and nephew, George Alger McAndrew. Josie was a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church. She graduated from East Tennessee State College in Johnson City and began her 45 year career as a teacher and principal in Jefferson County. She was known as a tireless and dedicated educator, and an innovator of new ideas and methods that would best benefit her students and society. Many former student still attest to her skill and brilliance as a teacher. Josie leaves behind a rich legacy of intellect and professional teaching. She retired after thirty years of teaching in Tennessee but continued with her profession in Marietta, GA for another fifteen years. Josie also received a Master of Arts from George Peabody College for Teachers in 1959, as well as a Specialist in Education degree in 1965 from Peabody. The family will receive friends Sunday November 19, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home. Service will follow at 8 p.m. with Rev. John Clark officiating. Graveside service will be conducted Monday November 20, 2006 at Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. Brown Funeral Home, Newport, has been honored to provide the final arrangements for Miss Josie Pauline McAndrew.
