Mrs. Pernie Walker Sherlin, age 87, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Autumn Care of Marion after several years of declining health.

Pernie was born in Old Fort on June 14, 1926 to the late Mack L. Walker and Janie Hoyle Walker.

A Godly woman and beautiful example of Christian charity to all who crossed paths with her, she loved her family and treasured her Lord. She was a faithful member of Cross Mill Pentecostal Holiness Church and served there in many capacities, including Adult Sunday School teacher and secretary of the church Auxiliary. Everyone who knew her will remember her lovely smile and encouraging and uplifting personality. To know her was to love her and she will be dearly missed.

Her husband of 59 years, Edward Sherlin, and her daughter, Patsy Hughes, preceded her in death.

Surviving are three sons, James Sherlin, Steve Sherlin and his wife Marietta, and Glen Sherlin and his wife Debi, all of Marion; a brother, David Walker of Front Royal, VA; a sister, Ruth Mace of Marion; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate her home-going will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Ron Carpenter officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. A private burial service will be held in McDowell Memorial Park on Monday.
