Arden, NC – Larry Carvie Areheart, 66, of Arden, died Thursday, November 25, 2010.

He was the son of the late Carvie Adam and Zenith Bobb Areheart. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Karen Kester Areheart and one son, Sam Areheart of San Antonio, TX.

Larry grew up and spent most of his life in Columbia, SC. He attended Brookland-Cayce High School where he participated in the national championship band program that represented the state of South Carolina at President John F. Kennedy's inaugural parade. Larry attended the University of South Carolina and was a graduate of the Palmer College of Business.

He first worked for Belk stores as a corporate buyer and in 1974 he opened and co-owned the big and tall store, Added Dimensions, and was its president for 17 years. He managed the first Men's Warehouse in Columbia and later worked for Howard's Department Store. Before leaving Columbia, he managed the Augsburg Fortress Seminary Bookstore at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. Upon his arrival in Arden, Larry was a sales associate at the Biltmore Village Square Co., manager of the Lutheridge camp bookstore and preschool music director at Lutheran Church of the Nativity.

Larry's hobbies included theater, singing and art. He was a cast member in productions of Godspell, Cabaret, Oliver, Annie, Evita, Fiddler of the Roof and Something's Afoot. Larry also sang tenor in many choral groups in Columbia including the Columbia Choral Society, the Palmetto Mastersingers and the Sandlapper Singers. He sang with the Carolina Concert Choir of Hendersonville and the Nativity chancel choir. A gifted painter and decorator, Larry served as coordinator of the Liturgical Arts team at Nativity.
