British jazz musician. Best known as a pianist and percussionist, he was a child prodigy discovered at the age of seven. His first paying gig was with his brothers, "The Feldman Trio" at No. 1 Rhythm Club in England. He was featured in two films King Arthur Was a Gentleman (1942) and Theatre Royal (1943). During a 45 year musical career he recorded more than 30 solo or group albums and contributed to at least a dozen others, with such notable acts as Cannonball Adderley, Miles Davis, Blue Mitchell, Gino Vanelli and Tom Waits. He toured with the likes of Woody Herman, Henry Mancini and Benny Goodman. In the latter years of his career he delved regularly from mainstream pop to jazz and rock 'n' roll, accompanying Frank Sinatra, Neil Diamond, Steely Dan, the Doobie Brothers and Kenny Loggins, among others. He was heard on numerous motion picture and television soundtracks, and had most recently been on tour with his Generation Band, a group he formed with fellow musician and saxophonist Tom Scott. He was found dead at his Woodland Hills home of a heart attack, at age 53, the morning after an evening rehearsal with his sons where he had complained of shortness of breath.
