"Wardrien Selvey had to quit school in the 8th grade due to Robert Lee having heart trouble. Selvey went on working for Western Union, then in the mail room at Esso Standard Oil Company. He went into business at Howell's Esso Service in 1937. In 1945 he was drafted into service and served two years before being discharged because he was the only son and Robert Lee's health was bad. When he came home he bought the service station back from a Mr. Lipe, who had about lost it. He stayed there until 1968."
