Headed Number of Large Concerns During Thirty-Five Year Career Here
Robert R. Williams, 62, 957 East Powell Avenue, prominent in the business life of the city for more than 35 years, lost his fight to live early yesterday morning. He died in St. Mary’s Hospital at 3:15 o’clock. Two blood transfusions given him on Thursday and Friday failed to check the intestinal ailment that claimed his life.
Williams: during the height of his business career was the president of the Indiana Tie Company, the Evansville Veneer Company, the Mobile Veneer Company, the Williams Coal Company, the Indiana Fluorspar and Lead Company.
FUNERAL SET TOMORROW
HE was also the vice-president of the Southern Indiana Farms Company, and a director of the Citizens National and Citizens Trust Savings Banks.
Funeral services will be held at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning at the Williams home. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Williams came to Evansville with his parents from Morganfield, Ky., when a boy and received his education in the Evansville Schools. From his first job as office boy in the Mackey railroad system here, he rose to travelling auditor covering 1000 miles of territory for the railroad system. At that time he was 21.
WIDENED BUSINESS INTERESTS
When general offices of his firm were moved to Chicago, Williams



resigned and became chief accountant for the Indiana Tie Company. After becoming president of the firm he gradually widened his interests. Williams retired some time ago but a year ago acted as receiver for the Williams Coal Company.
Surviving Williams are the widow, Ellanora Fitzgerald Williams, two sons, Robert F. of South Bend and Gordon F. of Evansville; a brother, Leslie Williams of South Bend and two sisters, Elizabeth A. and Ella M. Williams both of Evansville.
