A. Kay Reitz, 84 of Mayport died Thursday, March 20, 2014, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born Jan. 10, 1930, in Corbettown, Pa., he was the son of the late Mervin C. and Valera Painter Reitz.
Kay was married to Verna A. Minich Smathers on June 30, 1971. She preceded him in death on July 24, 2009.
He was self employed as a dairy farmer. Kay belonged to many farm related organizations. His hobby was restoring antique tractors. He belonged to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ohl.
Kay is survived by one daughter, Gail L. Reitz and husband John Harmon of Indio, Calif.; two stepsons, James Smathers of San Juan Capistrano, Calif., and Mark Smathers of Truth or Consequences, N.M.; and one step grand-daughter, Ashley Smathers of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
Along with his parents and wife he is preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Reitz.
His family will receive friends from 12-2 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014, at the Furlong Funeral Home, Gregory K. Furlong, FD, corner of Broad St. and First Ave., Summerville, Pa.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Steingass officiating.
Burial will be at the Zion Cemetery, Beaver Township, Jefferson County.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations be made to the Zion Cemetery c/o Linda Young, 6587 Pansy-Ringold Rd. Summerville, PA.
