DAVID F. "RED" BYERS, 62, of 14 N. Potomac St., died at 12:10 a.m. today in the Waynesboro Hospital. He had been in ill health for the past two years and was critically ill since entering the hospital a week and a half ago.
Born April 28, 1916 in Waynesboro, he was a son of the late John F. and Pearl Julia (Snowberger) Byers.
He was a lifelong resident of Waynesboro and for 30 years owned and operated Red Byers Shoe Repair on North Potomac Street. Prior to that, he had been employed by Landis Tool Co., for 10 years.
He and his wife were married Nov. 6, 1932 in Hagerstown and had lived at the present residence for the last 19 years.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Waynesboro Fish and Game Association and the Owls Club, Inc.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hilda M. Byers and these children, Mrs. Josephine Stitely, Waynesboro; Mrs. Shirley Ketterman, Gettysburg R.D. 3, Mrs. Crystal K. Willard, Blue Ridge Summit R.D. 1, Miss Beckie S. Byers, at home, and Robert F. Byers, Waynesboro.
Also surviving are 13 grandchildren: three great-grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Paul Zearfoss, Dover, Pa., Mrs. Wilbur Kinley, Waynesboro R.D. 5; and Mrs. John Worley, Burlington, N.C., two brothers, Percy G. Byers, Waynesboro, and Claude J. Byers, Waynesboro R.D. 6; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the John S. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home, South Church at Second Street, with Rev. Walter A. Stuart and the Rev. W. Rupert Turman officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
