Mary Ellen Cozad, 96, Mayetta, died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at a Kansas City, Mo., nursing facility.

She was born July 4, 1908, at Clearwater, the daughter of Orla and Mabel E. Reese Miles. She attended Corning High School.

Mrs. Cozad and her husband farmed and raised livestock west of Mayetta.

She was a member of the Prairie Band Pottawatomi Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Golden Rod Club at Holton and Mayetta and Our Pals Travel Group.

She married George Clyde Cozad on Nov. 28, 1925, at Corning. He died Aug. 24, 1982. She also was preceded in death by a son, George Carmon Cozad; two brothers, Fred Miles and Francis Miles; and two sisters, Mildred Bunds and Ethel Markham.

Survivors include a son, Roy Gary Cozad and wife Sheryl, Platte City, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Holton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
