Maj. Thomas Filmore Broom USAF Retired (71) passed away Friday February 28 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. He is preceded in death by his parents Ruby Edwards Broom and Master Sgt. Millard Filmore Broom.
Maj. Broom served with the Air Force from 1964 to 1985 with 780 combat flight hours as a navigator. On Nov. 26 2013, 45 years after being hit in the back by shrapnel in Vietnam, he received his purple heart during a presentation at North Henderson High School. Over 1000 students and faculty were present.
He is survived by his wife Nenita V. Broom, four children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday March 7 at the V.A. cemetery in Black Mountain NC. The Wilson Family Funeral Home in Black Mountain is now in charge of the arrangements.
