John L. Caldwell, 58, of Whitmire, died late Sunday afternoon at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Spartanburg County, the son of the late M.H. and Minnie Wingo Caldwell. He was a merchant and a member of Central Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lula Pruitt Caldwell; two daughters, Mrs. M.C. Fowler and Mrs. James Smith, both of Whitmire; one brother, Roy B. Caldwell, Sr., of McColl; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be anounced [announced] later by Whitaker Funeral Home.
